George and Lou Haedicke

A family history

This is the story of two very remarkable people.

One a soldier who served over 45 years in the military and led his troops to victory during some of the United State’s darkest hours. One a woman of determined character who, when few people in the United States could read or write, obtained her masters degree at the University of Chicago, and used that confidence and education to fight for women’s rights in the state of Utah.

Together they lived through some of the most remarkable events of the 20th century, while at the same time experiencing incredible joys and enduring devastating hardships. The pages that follow are but a meager attempt describe what their life together must have been like.

But their greatest accomplishment is the family that they created together.

This website is dedicated to that family. To the countless reunions, the stories, the games and the sense of unity we have whenever we’re together. It’s also dedicated Herman Henry Haedicke who started us on this journey of documenting our family’s history, and my father John Frederick Haedicke, who encouraged me to carry on the work.
